What are Forensic Services?

Forensic psychology is the application of clinical specialties to the legal arena. This can include assessment, treatment, research, and consultation to forensic entities.

Dr. Anderson has been working in the forensic field for close to 30 years. She obtained her training in criminal and civil forensic psychology at Arizona State Hospital which is the sole forensic hospital in the state. She worked with civil commitment cases including Danger to Self and Others, Gravely Disabled, and Persistently and Acutely Disabled, as well as criminal cases such as those rendered Incompetent to Stand Trial and Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity. She was mentored by the late Dr. Steven Pitt, nationally known forensic psychiatrist, and she assisted him with forensic cases in his private practice.

With her astute forensic insights and evaluations, Dr. Anderson has supported numerous patients facing legal entanglements. She frequently consults with attorneys requesting forensic evaluations and she has conferred with the Ventura County District Attorney’s office several times as an expert forensic psychologist. Her specialties include trauma and PTSD, Battered Woman’s Syndrome, Sexual Abuse and Assault, Interpersonal Violence, Domestic Violence, and Substance Abuse Issues

Forensic Services Testimonials

“For the past 30+ years I have worked with clients suffering from substance use disorders and mental health issues who find themselves in the criminal justice system. I have been fortunate enough to collaborate with the best attorneys, forensic psychologists, and therapists in the western United States and Dr. Shannae Anderson is one of the best with whom I have had the privilege to work. I met Dr. Anderson and started collaborating with her in the 1990’s when she was the Clinical Director of the Steps Treatment Program. Over the years, I have worked with many exceedingly difficult clients with complex treatment issues and Dr. Anderson is the first person I call when I have clients who have complex trauma issues, PTSD, and substance abuse disorders. I have referred many clients to Dr. Anderson for therapy and treatment plans over the years. I have also referred a number of clients to Dr. Anderson for forensic evaluations. Dr. Anderson is an amazingly gifted psychologist, healer, and forensic evaluator. Everyone I have referred to Dr. Anderson has raved about her, as have their attorneys. Prosecutors by nature tend to be distrusting of mental health experts. As a result, honesty, integrity, and reputation are crucial for any defense expert working in the criminal justice system. Dr. Anderson has an excellent reputation for her skills. More importantly in a forensic setting, Dr. Anderson has an outstanding reputation with prosecutors and judges as a straight shooter, whose word and evaluation they can trust. I cannot recommend Dr. Anderson highly enough. She is truly an amazing woman who has helped many people.”
